ATHRA is pleased to announce the ATHRA Awards for 2009. These awards are presented annually with the purpose of encouraging and recognising excellence by individuals or groups operating in the Australian railway and tramway tourist and heritage sector. In the 2009 the Awards are:

ATHRA Excellence Award
ATHRA-ARA Graeme Breydon Rail Safety Award
ATHRA-ARTC Infrastructure Restoration Award
ATHRA-Workshops Rail Museum Research Excellence Award
ATHRA Tourism Promotion Award
ATHRA Steam Locomotive Restoration Award
ATHRA Diesel/Petrol/Electric Locomotive Restoration Award
ATHRA Passenger Vehicle Restoration Award

The winner of the ATHRA Excellence Award will receive a Travel Grant of $600 from ATHRA for air travel within Australia and New Zealand to allow the winner to visit other tourist and heritage railways and tramways to learn from their successes and to share experiences.

The winner of the ATHRA-ARA Graeme Breydon Rail Safety Award will receive a Travel Grant of $500 courtesy of the Australasian Railway Association.

The winner of the ATHRA-ARTC Infrastructure Restoration Award will receive a prize to the value of $500 courtesy of Australian Rail Track Corporation.

The winner of the ATHRA-Workshops Rail Museum Research Award will receive a prize to the value of $500 courtesy of The Workshops Rail Museum, Queensland.

ATHRA thanks the Australasian Railway Association, Australian Rail Track Corporation and The Workshops Rail Museum, Queensland for their generous support of these Awards.

The winners of the remaining Awards will each receive a plaque to be retained in perpetuity.

Entries for the 2009 Awards close on 30th September 2009.

The winners of the 2009 Awards will be announced at the Gala Dinner held in conjunction with Railway Heritage Conference on 16th October 2009 at The Workshops Rail Museum. Details of the Railway Heritage Conference can be obtained from the The Workshops Rail Museum web site using this link.

Entries must conform to the ATHRA Awards General Rules & Conditions and the specific rules for each Award. The rules can be downloaded using the links below. Entries may be submitted by e-mail to awards@athra.asn.au or posted to PO Box 259, Port Adelaide 5015.
